Mysuru Warriors cruise past Rockstars

The Warriors are off to a great start as they managed to record their second straight win in the fifth edition of the Karnataka Premier League by beating the Rockstars by a massive total of 114 runs.

The clear skies and bright sunshine on a Sunday afternoon seemed to be the perfect way to play a game of cricket. The Warriors won the toss and elected to bat first, putting up a massive total of 219. The Rockstars seemed to crumble under the pressure of the first 200 plus run game.

The pitch was dry and the ball came on nicely for both the openers Rajoo Bhatkal and Arjun Hoysala. The opening partnership of 113 in just 80 balls was just the start they needed. The partnership soon came to an end when Bhatkal fell as prey to the bowling of Balchandra Naveen.

This did not stop Arjun Hoysala as he managed to hit the ball to all parts of the ground and make 89 runs off just 61 balls. The Rockstars were left to look back at the early missed opportunity when Hoysala edged a ball from SlAkshay to first slip, but the chase was not successful.

Hoysala managed to get support from every batsman that came to the crease. K Gowtham came in first and managed to hit a splendid 33 from 14 balls, then came Annirudha Joshi who made 27 off just 9 balls. Ultimately it was Hoysala’s 89 runs from 61 balls, with seven fours and two sixes that managed to get the warriors their first 200 odd run score in the KPL. With some skilled and well-timed stroke play, they reached 219 at the end of their 20 overs.

The Rockstars came out to the crease looking to give the Mysuru Warriors a perfect reply to the massive total but managed to fall short. Though they got off to a good start with opener Rajeev who added 50 runs to the board in just 23 balls, his half century came easily as he sent the ball across the boundary continuously making 3 sixes and 7 fours. Rajoo Bhatkal changed the pace and managed to send the opener, Rajeev back to the stands. Rajeev’s dismissal triggered a collapse as the Rockstars soon found themselves at 100/7.

The Rockstar’s captain KichchaSudeep got a warm welcome by the audience when he took his stand at the crease but he could only watch helplessly as his team mates kept falling at the other end to the hands of the warrior bowlers. J Suchith managed to pick up 3 wickets, making him the 3rd highest wicket taker in all of KPL.

The men in yellow showed that they have the overall package and that they can put up big totals and defend them at the same time. They are off to a good start and are getting a few steps closer to the winning the championship.
